5 things you need in a brand video for your about page

Your about page is one of the most frequently visited pages on your site, so make sure you're making the most of it! Learn how to use a brand video to connect instantly with your ideal customers rather than giving them a long page of copy to read through | Check out Bountiful Path for the video lesson.

Picture this...The word is out! People are hearing about your business and coming to your site. They look around your homepage and decide to go directly to your about page to see if your shop is what they're looking for. But they're confronted with a never-ending page of copy that they just don't have time to sort through and read. Do they stay for a few minutes and read more than a few lines? Or do they bounce away because they just don't have any more time to make a decision about your shop?

Well, unfortunately, the answer may be that they bounce away in a lot of cases if you haven't captured their attention by the first couple sentences. I mean, honestly, how much do you actually read off of websites these days? Usually we're just shopping online while we wait to pick up the kids after school or checking out some cool new pins while we eat breakfast in the morning. It's always about multitasking or doing something while we wait for another thing to happen. So really, no one wants to have to sift through a ton of copy just to hear whether your online shop is for them. They've got too many other things going on for that.

On the other hand, the tendency to watch a quick video on a site is so much higher for people these days! You can immediately click on a video and watch for just a few minutes to get a much quicker and more dynamic version of what's going on. Heck, you can even listen to it while you're doing something else! I mean, is that the best thing since sliced bread or what?!

Basically, when you're putting together any content and especially for your about page, you really just don't want to waste people's time. That's the biggest thing that we all highly value, and when you appreciate someone's time they'll appreciate you right back! So that's why we're gonna start using video as a means to convey our message, 'kay? Now, it shouldn't completely replace the copy on your page, but it should provide people with an alternative way to hear what you have to say. You can always pair additional copy with your video as necessary, but we want to make sure that you have a video on your page for those of us who could use a little help when we're short on time and attention span.

To get you going, I've put together this video about the five things you need to cover to check all the boxes for your brand video. I'll go over the importance of each one so that you can start putting the pieces together for your own brand. So go ahead and watch the video to learn more. Then, be sure to jump down to the comments and let me know if using a video feels a lot easier to you than writing a long page full of copy. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Topics covered in this video:

0:35 What a brand video allows you to do

1:00 Make it about your customer

1:15 Provide a story to relate to

1:30 Demonstrate how can your customers integrate your products into their lives

2:00 What value will customers receive or how will they feel from buying your products

Take those five things I covered in the video and put together a little bullet-pointed script for yourself to use when creating your own brand video. You'll feel a lot more comfortable knowing exactly what to talk about and having a direction for your message. Before you head off to start thinking about what you'd want to say, make sure you go down to the comments and let me know if the idea of this brand video feels easier to you than writing a long page of copy. That way I can help you find the best ways to visually to connect with your customers.
